Workshop Series A     12.05pm - 1.05pm

A: DK, MediaSnackers: Social Media Masterclass

This pacey Masterclass session will give insights into why and how young people are using digital technologies and online platforms. DK will present an overview of the changing landscape of new technology, increase your awareness of social media and the opportunities, plus present specific case studies and ideas to take away and try.

B: John Davitt, Keynote Speaker: Understanding* Session: Occupy the hand and free the mind -

This Understanding* will explore how we might break free of desks and screens, share the learning recipe in new and dramatic ways, allow staff to enjoy their own learning curves, manage innovation and still have a social life..

*What’s an understanding? An understanding is a chance to “walk the talk” of issues raised in the keynote. It’s an evolution of the workshop idea that gets delegates out of their chairs, telling stories – making things and then publishing the results in a number of formats – analogue and digital. You are encouraged to bring your gadgets to this conference!

C: Mark Blois, Browne Jacobson: "Tackling Cyberbullying - setting the legal scene"

In this session Mark will seek to set out the law and legal obligations that apply to this emerging area and show that while there are many very good reasons to raise awareness about cyberbullying and the impact of the same, legal risk is in itself an important area for schools and education establishments and to have an understanding of, if they are to
be able to effectively manage this problem.

D: Tim Davies, Practical Participation: Youth Work and Social Networking: policy & practice, opportunities & challenges

An interactive workshop building on recently published in depth research for The National Youth Agency around youth work responses to the growth of online social networking. The practical, action-based research offers a distinctive youth work perspective on online social networking and explores key issues of safety, workforce development and social networking strategies.

Through participative activities this workshop will explore practical and policy steps that projects, organizations and services can take to: support young people's social networking literacy; promote themselves through online social networks; and use social network sites as a practical youth work tool in wide range of contexts.
